Ask the Tailor: Should I Commission a Two or Three Piece Suit?

Each month we ask our expert tailors to address one of your most frequent questions. This month we’re asking whether you should commission a two or three piece suit.

A suit consists of two or three pieces. The jacket and the trousers are necessary parts of the whole, but whether or not you choose to add a waistcoat is up to you.

Most modern suits do not come with a waistcoat as standard. Whether for the office, weddings, parties or events, most gentlemen feel that...

How to Choose Cufflinks

Cufflinks are a vital accessory to any dress shirt. Not only are they practical, they also offer a key opportunity to flaunt your style.

These tiny accessories can have a huge impact on the overall success of your outfit. Get them right, and they can add a flash of personality to your tailoring. Get them wrong and you risk undermining the rest of your look.

Like a lot of great fashion pieces, cufflinks originated in France. They were developed in response to a practical need:...

Ask the Tailor: Do I Need a Ticket Pocket?

Each month we ask our expert tailors to address one of your most frequent questions. This month we’re covering the issue of ticket pockets: do you need one?

If you’re not au fait with the proper names for suit pockets, the small usually-flapped pocket just above the main hip pocket on the right hand side of a jacket is called the ticket pocket.

Ever wondered why it’s there? This useful little pocket actually has a very interesting history. It first appeared on the jackets...

How to Store Out of Season Tailoring

The wardrobe minimalists among us probably have abundant space to store their clothing year round. A perfectly put together capsule wardrobe takes up minimal space and doesn’t require seasonal pruning.

Most of us, however, do not fall into this category. We must confess that we love quality menswear too much to limit ourselves to a particular number of pieces! The upside of this is that we can thrill in an abundance of beautifully put together tailored outfits… the downside is that we have to find somewhere...

A History of Pocket Squares

It’s impossible to look at the history of pocket squares without considering the lineage of it’s more practical cousin, the handkerchief.

Despite their utilitarian beginnings, once the upper classes started showing an interest in them, handkerchiefs underwent something of a renaissance. They began to be made out of luxury fabrics such as silk and often featured ornate decoration such as embroidery and lace edging.

When the two piece suit became the norm...

Each month we ask our expert tailors to address one of your most frequent questions. This month we’re talking about fittings. How long should a full fitting take?

You don’t need us to tell you that every tailor is different. If you’ve ever purchased a piece of bespoke menswear, you’ll know that the personality and expertise of the tailor will have a big impact on both the experience and the garment you receive at the end of it.

What shouldn’t differ, however, is how...
