Christenings and naming ceremonies are a great opportunity to gather family and friends together and officially welcome a new little person into the fold. They’re also a great opportunity to put together some of your favourite smart/casual tailored pieces!
Dress codes vary, but this type of celebration usually teeters between formal and smart/casual. A suit is always an excellent (and safe!) choice for these occasions, but you may want to consider smart separates.
A pair of dress trousers or chinos and a blazer or sports jacket could be just the look you’re going for here. If you want to dress up your separates, a matching bow tie and pocket square would be a fantastic choice.
As christenings and naming ceremonies are held to honour babies and very young children, you may want to consider adding a more playful element to your outfit. Of course, this always depends on individual dress codes: we wouldn’t recommend a pastel pink suit for a very traditional religious ceremony!
However, if you’re attending a more smart/casual occasion you might want to bring in colour or pattern to your outfit as a fun nod to the occasion. This can be a great way to let your personality shine through your tailoring and make sure you don’t blend into the crowd.
You could do this by opting for a coloured suit or jacket, both bright and pastel shades would work brilliantly here. Alternatively, you may opt for the more subtle choice of a colourful or patterned shirt.
If in doubt, you can never go wrong with a beautifully cut suit in a neutral colour. We’d suggest navy or grey; black could be too sombre for this kind of occasion. Pair it with a white shirt, perhaps with the top few buttons left undone if it’s a smart/casual occasion.
You could also go the other way and opt for a bright tie; which is a playful look we love. This light blue woven silk tie could be the perfect final touch.
