We’re almost certainly not the first ones you’ve heard say it… but the weather is on the turn. Though we’re a little sad to say goodbye to summer, we can’t deny we’re also excited. After all, autumn and winter are when tailoring really comes into its own.
Autumn is a time for smart shapes and light layers. The tailoring world is transitioning out of lightweight chinos and airy white shirts and into more formal jackets and suits. This is also the time of year where we can put away pastels and summer brights and bring out richer, earthier tones.
What about outerwear?
As the temperature starts to drop, you may be starting to think about outerwear. A beautifully made overcoat will see you through autumn and winter in the very best of comfort and the very best of style.
If your wardrobe is missing out on this vital garment, or if your current overcoat is in need of some TLC, now is the time to act. Speak to your tailor about your overcoat now and they will have time to work with you to create your ideal coat by the time things really get cold.
Does your overcoat need an overhaul?
As a first step towards preparing your autumn/winter wardrobe, we suggest taking your overcoat out of storage and giving it a close going-over. If the fabric is still in great condition, the fit is comfortable and flattering, and the overall style is right, this is excellent news. We’d recommend airing it out or having it dry-cleaned, if you didn’t do that before you put it away for the season.
Alternatively, if your overcoat is not looking it’s best, it may be time to pay a visit to your tailor. They will be able to advise you on whether your overcoat can be repaired or restored, or whether it might be time to start afresh.
We’re always on hand to offer tailoring advice you can trust. Why not book an appointment to discuss your outerwear?
