Are you thinking about investing in a tailor made overcoat this autumn? We think that an overcoat is an excellent investment, whether it’s your first bespoke tailored garment or your hundredth.
One of the best things about choosing a classic overcoat is that you know you’ll get a great deal of value from it. Unlike a suit or blazer, an overcoat is designed to be worn every day over the winter.
This includes over a suit during the working week, over smarter clothes in the evening and even with more casual ensembles at the weekend.
Not sure how to wear your tailored overcoat at the weekend?
Some gentlemen worry that their formal overcoat won’t look good with more informal weekend staples such as jeans, chinos or sweatshirts. We’re happy to assure you that this won’t be the case!
Pairing an overcoat with your weekend clothes may require a little more thought, but the results will be well worth it. After all; why limit your dapper style to weekdays?!
Here are some tips from us on how to make it work:
- If the weather allows, wear your overcoat unbuttoned to show off your outfit underneath. This look works really well with a sweater. Chilly?! You can always add a scarf.
- If in doubt, keep the rest of your look really simple. An all black ensemble under a camel or grey coat can look really sharp.
- Stick to smarter boots. A pair of Chelsea boots or desert boots combined with an overcoat will take a jeans and sweater outfit from casual to smart casual.
- Still worried about looking too formal? Add sunglasses! On a bright day, sunglasses with an overcoat look really cool, and really help to balance the formality.
