How to Wear a Summer Blazer

Can we invite you on a journey of sartorial escapism? No matter what the weather is like outside, it always makes us feel a little warmer to look ahead to our summer wardrobe.

From May to September, formal events such as weddings, graduation ceremonies, garden parties, christenings and ceremonial sporting events often require a little extra thought. Though a well cut bespoke suit is never out of place at such an occasion, you may find you want to opt for something a little lighter, especially if the festivities will be taking place outdoors.

On these occasions, a summer weight blazer is an excellent choice. Linen and cotton are the usual options here, as they’re lightweight fabrics that allow a lot of air flow. Most summer blazers come in lighter colours such as white, beige, grey or blue, though bolder colours and pastels look fantastic, as do striped or patterned options.

Some people shy away from the summer blazer as they’re worried it will be difficult to pull off. However, we’re here to assure you that there’s a perfect summer blazer style for everyone.

Is this the year you invest in a stylish summer blazer? Here are a few pointers on how to wear it with pride.

Choose your colour wisely

If you want your summer blazer to be an investment piece you can wear over and over again, we recommend you think carefully about the colour. Grey, beige or blue are the safest choices here, and are probably most similar to the suits you usually wear.

However, the safe option isn’t always the right one! A blazer in a statement colour can be an excellent addition to your wardrobe: just make sure you choose a colour that brings out the best in you.

Opt for textured rather than patterned fabric

Let us make this clear: we love patterned blazers. That said, many gentlemen don’t find them easy to wear. If you want a blazer with a bit of interest but aren’t sure about going for a full on print, we recommend choosing a fabric with texture.

This will give a special something to your blazer, without making it stand out too much.

If in doubt, wear it with chinos

There are many ways to wear a summer blazer. Some gentlemen wear them with jeans or even tailored shorts and look great in them, but these aren’t always the easiest looks to pull off. If you’re unsure, start with a pair of chinos in cream or navy.
