How to Choose Your First Bespoke Suit

We believe that your first bespoke suit is incredibly special. Not only will it be perfectly designed, perfectly fitted and perfectly built around you, it also marks something of a watershed moment.

When you make the decision to go bespoke for the first time, you are choosing to invest in yourself sartorially. By doing this you are signalling, both to yourself and to the people around you, that you believe in yourself.

Are you thinking about taking the plunge and ordering your first bespoke suit? Though it’s most certainly a benefit to be able to build your own suit down to every last detail… the many choices that are involved can be a little overwhelming!

Our advice for this is simple: keep things classic. Assuming you’re not purchasing the suit for a special event such as your wedding, you will presumably want to come away with a suit that can be worn for a full range of occasions.

Classic tailoring never goes out of style. We’d suggest choosing something beautifully simple and reasonably slim fitting in navy blue or dark grey. These colours work well for all types of event, be it the office, parties, weddings or interviews.

When it comes to fabric choice, consider a lightweight worsted wool. This is a versatile fabric option which can be worn all year round. Patterned fabric such as pinstripes or houndstooth designs can be stylish, but you’ll probably find that you get more wear out of plainer options.

Of course, these are not the only choices you’ll need to make! You’ll also need to put other details under consideration such as number of buttons, lapel style, trouser break, pockets, shoulder style and fly fastening. With all of these decisions, we suggest that you opt for the most comfortable and most flattering option.

Remember, the aim is to come away with a suit that you’ll wear for many years to come.
