Christmas style can be tricky to navigate. For every well dressed gentleman at a black tie event there’s sure to be a well-meaning festive fashion victim in a santa hat! And don’t even get us started on musical ties…
We get it, December is an exciting month and you may want to reflect that in your fashion choices. Luckily, there is a way to look seasonally appropriate without donning a sparkly waistcoat or novelty tie! Want to know how? Here’s our advice.
Incorporate colour
Colour is an excellent way to add a festive twist to an outfit while still keeping it sophisticated. For best results we suggest you choose rich jewel tones, perhaps in red or green. How much of this colour you work into your outfit will depend on how confident you are! A ruby red tie or pocket square could be an excellent way to bring a touch of cheer to an otherwise classic ensemble. Alternatively, a forest green shirt or sweater can look festively stylish under your suit.
Wear luxury fabrics
Christmas parties can be a great excuse to show off luxury fabrics such as velvet, silk, cashmere, tartan and tweed. A velvet blazer can look fabulously extravagant, as can a tweed jacket, a silk waistcoat, a tartan cummerbund or cashmere suit trousers.
Choose playful cufflinks
If you really can’t resist adding a Christmas-themed accessory, we say make it your cufflinks! Good quality links can add a subtle festive theme without looking tacky. We think precious metal is best, and that the classiest cufflinks are always the plainest ones.
Focus on patterns
Sometimes there’s just no way round the Christmas jumper! You may find this on the now-annual Christmas Jumper Day held in aid of the Save the Children charity. If your office, social club or family are taking part, never fear. There is a way to wear a festive jumper without sacrificing style. We suggest focusing on patterns: fair isle and diamond designs will look christmassy but won’t look silly under a suit jacket.
Keep things classic
If in doubt, go for the classic option. No gentleman has ever been out of place at a party in a made to measure suit and a crisp white shirt!
However you’ll be spending the festive period, we wish you a merry and stylish Christmas.
