Ask the Tailor: The Best Festive Accessories

Each month we ask our expert tailors to address one of your most frequent questions. This month we’re talking accessories, and which are the best to wear over the festive season.

When we say festive accessories, all sorts of things might come to mind. Reindeer antlers, perhaps, or sparkly deeley boppers. Christmas jumpers might be high on the list too, as well as the ubiquitous Santa hat.

As you can imagine, none of these particular accessories are ones we would recommend! Rather, we think there are some excellent ways to bring a touch of celebration to your tailoring that don’t involve a significant sacrifice in style.

Pocket squares

There’s something beautifully elegant about a well-folded pocket square. And even better? You can make this classic accessory wonderfully festive without having to opt for a novelty print. We suggest choosing festive jewel tones such as ruby red or emerald green. If you’d like to take things a step further, gold or silver can also be worn well.

Bow ties

Bow ties might well be the most festive of ties. A black bow tie is perfectly festive in its own right, though of course you may wish to opt for a more traditionally festive colour.

Lapel pins

We think lapel pins are woefully underrated in terms of tailoring accessories. These can be an excellent choice for adding a little something festive to your look without going overboard. Classic seasonal emblems include stags, holly berries and robins.

Waistcoats

We know waistcoats don’t technically count as accessories, but we thought they deserved a place in this particular round up. After all, a waistcoat made from luxe fabrics such as silk, velvet or tweed can add a subtle touch of seasonal cheer to any tailored outfit.

Next month we’ll be asking our tailors to cover another frequently asked tailoring question. Sign up to our newsletter to make sure you dont miss it.
